Path at the A701 Bilston
The path from the former railway S of Loanhead reaches Bilston here at the main road. The Lothian bus is heading into Edinburgh from Penicuik and carries the old name 'Pen-y-Cog' for Penicuik, hill of the cuckoo, along with the cuckoo emblem.

Bilston Burn Park
The plaque describes the rise of Bilston as a mining village, serving the colliery which produced coal from 1963 to its closure in 1988. Now Bilston is becoming a commuter location, like other small Midlothian communities.

Seafield Road, Bilston
Bilston is a former mining village that served the Bilston Glen Colliery which closed in 1988. Several small housing schemes have been built since, with a larger development currently underway at Cameron Gardens (see Image), changing Bilston's role to a commuter base as the Edinburgh City By-Pass is nearby. Unchanged, the Pentland Hills form the western skyline.
