Secret Ballot Box
A demonstration of a secret ballot box in the Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh. A ball held in the hand entered through the aperture drops the ball in a tray either to the left, 'Admit' or to the right, 'Reject'.

The Merchants' Hall, Hanover Street
Note the scallop shell sculptures over the windows, similar to one at the former British Linen Bank branch in George Street. They symbolise prosperity. The seahorses above the doorway symbolise strength.
