Path in Bryanswood
Bryanswood is nowadays a rather scruffy and litter-strewn piece of reclaimed land, but on the OS 6" Edinburghshire sheet VIII.SE (1908) there is shown here a pit (presumably coal) and the D'Arcy Lime Works, connected by tramway to the D'Arcy limestone mine at Mayfield Quarry about 1km to the east. A mineral railway ran to the Lady Victoria Colliery.
