New houses, Dalkeith.
Beside a new road, further southward expansion of Dalkeith to take some of the pressure of the Edinburgh housing shortages. Roman Fields, as it is called seems to be pitched quite high, with mostly largish properties.

A little reminder of the past
This small rushing burn flows beneath mature trees amid what is now a modern housing estate on the edge of Woodburn. A couple of years ago, the burn flowed between open fields.

Entrance to new housing estate, Woodburn
Development of the estate would appear to be pretty much complete for now. The marketing signboard is advertising 'This Week's Star Buy' as being a 4-bedroom detached house at £244,000. Seems pretty expensive to me for a house in a housing estate, even if it is in commuting-range of Edinburgh.

New housing estate, Woodburn
The private road referred to in the sign is to the left. To the right is a wide public footpath which borders a grassed area onto which the new houses face. The mature trees in the background grow along an original hedge line which existed when the land here was fields.
