Baberton Mains Road
Beyond the bridge the road-name changes to Baberton Road. Considering that the road is less than a mile long and that there is only Baberton Mains Farm (now converted into a residential steadings) this side of the bridge, and five other properties on the other side, this makes for quite quirky naming. The railway running over the bridge goes between Wester Hailes (to the left) and Curriehill stations on one of the Edinburgh-Glasgow lines. Although they can't be properly made out from the picture the white flowers on the right-hand verge are garlic mustard. Judging by the internet, they are viewed as a very unwelcome invasive alien species in America. Our own sites make no criticisms, though it certainly has taken over in certain sections of this roadside. (It tastes strong and bitter raw, with no great hints of garlic or mustard, incidentally.) Another picture was taken from almost this exact spot 15 years ago - Image] - and it is noticeable how much the verge vegetation has been pared back since then.

Baberton Mains
Originally a farm house and steading complex [see the pigeon holes in the building to the left], but now, I think, just housing. It received a Saltire Society award in 1975 for its reconstruction.
