Apartment blocks in Slateford
Looking across the Meggetland playing field to modern housing at Appin Place and Appin Lane, off the A70 Slateford Road. The birds in the foreground were Fieldfares - a group of 25 was feeding on the grass, the only ones I have seen so far this winter; too mild, and all the berries have long since been stripped by the winds.

Hutchison Cottages, Slateford Road
A typical block of council housing in the cottage-style, built along the north side of Slateford Road in 1921, shortly after the First World War, as part of the drive to make Britain "a fit land for heroes to live in" (Lloyd George). The row is named after the Lord Provost of the time.

Fountain Brewery Bowling Club, Slateford Road
The Club, whose first green was at Harrison Park, was founded in 1910 by brewery workers of McEwan & Co at Fountainbridge. It moved to Slateford Road in 1955.
