Anchor Close from Cockburn Street
The entrance to the upper half of the close from Cockburn Street. It was cut off from the lower half when Cockburn Street was laid in 1859 to create access to Waverley Station from the Old Town without having to go the long way round across the North Bridge. The close was once home to the visionary Lord Provost George Drummond who advocated the building of the New Town in the eighteenth century.
