On Braidburn Terrace - looks as if it could be expensive!

At the junction with Braid Road, Braidburn Terrace and Hermitage Drive. Difficult on good days, but presenting even more of a challenge in snowy conditions.

What is about to become an interesting road junction. The local Councillor has been collared by some 'concerned citizens', who are wondering what will happen when this junction reopens to traffic on Monday. Covid and 'spaces for people' have been used as reasons to alter this junction. It has been partially closed for almost a year. Originally it was a busy suburban crossroads controlled by a mini-roundabout Image During Covid Braid Road [to the left Image] was closed completely to traffic. Braidburn Terrace [top left] will become 1-way, towards the photographer. Braid Road will reopen to southbound traffic [from R-L], but with no direct access to the junction for southbound vehicles from the northern section of Braid Road! They will have to do a detour, to come up from behind me. A triumph of confusion, with still some uncertainty amongst the onlookers as to what exactly will happen. I will up-date if necessary.

From the site of the old mini-roundabout. Perhaps the 3+ years of changing and temporary arrangements at these cossroads will soon be over? The yellow notices read:- No Parking Here Mon 4th Sep For 6 Months Access would be start! This is a recent continuation of a long closure while the road was resurfaced and modified for cyclists and made one-way for vehicles.

Traffic lights for works at the Braid Road mini-roundabout - it just seemed to be for telephone work on the pavement round the corner.

After a year of Covid-induced closure the road has been reopened south bound, so beware traffic hurtling round the bend from the right - the only direction it can come from. There was a difficult mini-roundabout at this crossroads Image; it has been replaced by two 'diagonal filters', so it is now about 1 km by road from Braidburn Terrace to where the photographer is.

Road works in progress after the reopening of the road [sort of] after its closure during the Covid-19 pandemic, to create 'Spaces for People'. A pedestrian crossing is being created, but is currently in a state of incompletion - a litter of temporary signs, cones, lights and skittles, the latter are technically 'wands', but no magic here!

Before Covid-19 one could head straight across the mini-roundabout that controlled the crossroads here. After Covid-19 it is a ridiculous and potentially dangerous junction, and one can no longer drive the full length of Braid Road without a diversion. To get to the other side of the road block involves a 550 m detour around four sides of a square, with narrow streets and parked vehicle - more emissions and more hazards, all in the name of 'Spaces for People' - a Covid traffic measure of Edinburgh City Council that has cost at least £5 million.
