View of 20 Gracechurch Street, "Walkie Talkie" building, Tower 42, The Tower and the Gherkin from outside the City Hall
20 Gracechurch Street is the old Barclays headquarters and is located on the corner of Gracechurch and Lombard Streets. It is located at the corner of Gracechurch and Lombard Streets. The "Walkie Talkie" building was completed earlier this year and has become notorious for its "urban heat island" effect - it reflects so much sunlight that it creates an intense amount of heat, which has been enough to melt cars and to enable people to fry eggs underneath it! The building is therefore currently being modified to prevent this. Tower 42 opened in 1981 and formerly known as the Natwest Tower. The Tower is the tall building with the diamond-shaped window panes and the Gherkin opened in 2003. Looking north-northwest.
