The churchwardens' pews at St Margaret Pattens
The church of St Margaret Pattens was built by Christopher Wren between 1684 and 1689 and the steeple dates from1689 – 1701. The spire is 199 feet high. The west gallery carries the organ and in front of this are the canopied churchwardens’ pews – the finest in the City. One of these has a date on it of 1686. The church was restored in 1955 – 1956 when the gallery in the north aisle was filled in. As well as the churchwardens’ pews, much other original woodwork survives including the beadle’s pew at the front. This view shows the west gallery and the churchwardens’ pews.
