North end of platform 10, Moorgate
Looking towards Finsbury Park from about halfway along platform 10 of Moorgate station. The platforms were constructed for the Great Northern & City Railway, a tube railway built to accommodate full size, main line trains. It was intended to be used by electric trains of the Great Northern Railway to access the City (hence the name); however, this only happened once the former Great Northern lines out of London were electrified by British Rail in 1976, this line thus having to wait 72 to years from opening to fulfil its purpose. Unfortunately, the tunnels proved insufficiently large to accommodate the 25kV 50Hz AC overhead electrification system that had become standard by then, necessitating the construction of trains that could also operate on 750V DC third rail in the tunnels.

This was the exact road I was going to for a photo, it was all closed off so I'll have to return another time.
