Shoreditch: Ironmonger Row Baths
Ironmonger Row Baths was built in 1931 and extended in 1938 for Finsbury Borough Council to the designs of the leading municipal baths architects AWS and KMB Cross. It was Grade II listed as recently as November 2006, and is within the London Borough of Islington’s St Luke’s Conservation Area. Ownership of the building passed to Islington Borough Council in 1965. Although the building continues to be used for its original purposes as a swimming pool, Turkish baths, and a public laundry, the Council are currently considering refurbishment plans, and carried out a public consultation in November 2007.
