Ye Olde Mitre, Holborn
Tucked away in Ely Court - which runs between Ely Place and Hatton Garden, and is not at all easy to find - the Olde Mitre dates from 1546 and was originally built for the servants of the Bishop of Ely. The Bishop's London townhouse was located where Ely Place now stands and was an exclave of Cambridgeshire, so at one time the pub was licensed in Cambridge. Now a Fullers pub, as the sign indicates, it is well regarded by those in the know.

Bishop's mitre on the wall of Ye Olde Mitre, Ely Court, EC1
