Chingford railway station
The Great Eastern Railway (GER) reached Chingford Green in 1873 and the current terminus shown here in 1878. However the GER's intention to extend the railway into the heart of Epping Forest to High Beech is evident insofar as the station layout is obviously planned as a through station. That scheme never came to fruition though.

Station Road, Chingford
Chingford was merely a small village until the arrival of the railway in 1873. It subsequently expanded, firstly as something of a resort due to its location on the edge of Epping Forest, and then as a commuter town - there is a still a frequent service from here into Liverpool Street. This view was taken at the station entrance looking across to the Station House pub - formerly the Thomas Willingale.
