A very popular pub with boaters working the 20 locks up from the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, and/or contemplating the eight further locks at Delph, skirting Brierley Hill.

The path down to the Cone
The view from the Stourbridge Canal sixteen locks towards the Red House Cone. The glass works Cone is one of only four left in the UK, and was built about 1788 and used up to 1936.

Stourbridge Locks No 9 near Buckpool, Dudley
Looking north-east towards Leys Junction (with the Dudley No 1 Canal) just under half a mile away.
On the Stourbridge Canal, there are sixteen locks in the Stourbridge flight. They provide a rise (or fall) of 145 feet (44·2 metres). The locks are close together so the wide pounds in between help maintain water levels at busy times.

On the Stourbridge Canal, there are sixteen locks in the Stourbridge flight. They provide a rise (or fall) of 145 feet (44·2 metres). Locks No 9 and 10 (off to the right) are linked, but are not a staircase.

Stourbridge Lock No 9 and the Stourbridge Canal
On the right is the Red House Cone. It is a 90-foot (27 m) high conical brick structure with a diameter of 60 feet (18 m), used for the production of glass. It was used by the Stuart Crystal firm till 1936, when the company moved to a new facility. It is one of only four cones remaining in the United Kingdom.

Stourbridge Locks No 10 and 9 with cottage near Buckpool, Dudley
Looking north-east towards Lock No 10. No 9 is just beyond it. They are not a staircase despite being linked, water for No 10 coming from a large sidepond behind the cottage.
It is just under half a mile to Leys Junction (with the Dudley No 1 Canal).

Side pond south of lock 10, the Stourbridge canal
The locks in the middle section of the Stourbridge Sixteen flight are very close together. The unnavigable side ponds increase the water volume between the locks, preventing the pounds from becoming too low.
