'Prefabs' on Holly Hall Road, Dudley in 1977
Prefabs - prefabricated homes - such as these were built in large numbers in the post-WWII period as a temporary answer to the housing shortage; they had an expected life of around 10 years. Those in the image were still in place in 1977 and they presumably lasted longer. The nearest building is / was at the junction of Clee Road and Holly Hall Road. The A461 dual carriageway now slices through the location though both roads still exist according to current mapping, in 2020.

Dudley : Scotts Green Island Pegasus
An exquisite bronze horse, by Andrew Logan, from classical mythology- 'Pegasus' sits on Scotts Green Island. The Pegasus symbolisies hope for the future and the new Millennium. The glass inlay on the wings makes reference to the glass industry past and present and the route to the historic Glass Quarter nearby. The bejeweled plume that crowns the mane was designed and cut at the renowned Stuart glassworks, adjacent to the recently restored Redhouse Cone in Wordsley. The plinth was fabricated locally and represents a rock from Mount Parnassus where Pegasus lived. It is surrounded by Mediterranean style cypress trees to help Pegasus feel at home! "For me, Pegasus is to do with the elements, earth and sky. It's about where we come from and where we are going to." - Andrew Logan http://www.bbc.co.uk/blackcountry/culture/2003/02/sculpture_tour/scotts_green_island.shtml

Dudley Tunnel
Dudley Tunnel was opened in 1792 and, at 3154 yards long, is one of the longest on the canal network. Most boats, however, use the parallel and newer Netherton Tunnel which is a much more practical proposition. Engines cannot be used in Dudley Tunnel and boaters are faced with the option of legging through or arranging for the services of The Dudley Canal Trust's electric tug boat. In any case, there is a severe headroom restriction (note the gauge measure hanging in the tunnel mouth) which completely rules out most modern narrowboats. The best way to see the inside of the tunnel is probably to join one of the trip boats run from the Black Country Living Museum at the other end of the tunnel.
