The building in the foreground is Severn View, and comprises 25 apartments. It is part of the large Waters Edge housing development being built around a canal basin, which has been dug out of a larger filled in basin. The basin is the other side of this building. Waters Edge and the basin are part of the regeneration of this part of Stourport-on-Severn. Originally there was talk of cafés and the like around the basin, as well as housing. But all that has been built, so far, is housing. As all the building is now either completed, or well under way, it is difficultv to see where a cafe or any other non-housing unit could be fitted in. That being so, those in need of refreshment will have to content themselves with the nearby Angel Inn, and the recently opened Windlass Café & Restaurant at 1 Severn Side. Image Image

This long narrow lane, enclosed mainly by high walls on both sides, comes out on the road known as Severn Side. Probably best avoided at night, although it is lit. Mart Lane entrance:- Image

This was and to a limited degree still is part of the industrial area of Stourport-on-Severn. Much has gone, but parts of the buildings remaining are in some kind of commercial use. On the left are remains of the old gas works.

At the time this photograph was taken Unit O was occupied by Aztec Label. The firm manufactures self-adhesive label and tag products. The business was established in 1993 and as it has grown it has moved premises several times. The premises at Severnside Business Park were only temporary, as the firm was planning to move elsewhere.

This is part of the new housing development by the side of the re-opened canal basin. When the development was first being promoted, it was claimed there would be a mix of residential and non-residential buildings. So far nothing non-residential seems to have been built. Maybe these will be built on the land which has not yet been developed? Image;Image

A newish housing development called Waters Edge surrounds the re-excavated Lichfield Basin. Sadly, no boats are currently allowed to occupy the generous moorings.

Looking upstream. Some of the old factory premises are either disused, or are being used for newer purposes. The two sets of locks leading into the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal are beyond the distant moored Viking Afloat hireboat (the yellow/orange one).

This previously derelict canal basin has been redeveloped and made the focus for new waterside apartments.
