Load Street, looking northeast
Bewdley has been described as the most perfect small Georgian town in Worcestershire,and it is that, but behind many of the Georgian fronts are much older timber-framed buildings. This is the most important road in the town, and goes down to the River Severn. Telford's famous bridge across the river can be seen in the far distance. On the immediate left of the picture, can be seen part of the George Hotel. This was closed for a while, but purchased by J D Wetherspoons, and has recently re-opened.

Bewdley Bridge in 1987
The bridge carries the B4195 road over the River Severn. The large red brick house over the bridge on the left hand side stands in Severn Street South. The church tower is that of St Anne's.
