The Plough (1986)
When this picture was taken the then landlord was a veteran of D-Day. He ferried troops to Gold beach from the ships lying off the beaches. Shortly afterwards he retired & the pub became a haunt for the horsey-yuppie set who knew nothing about beer but plenty about horse-shit (sorry, manure) - so our group moved on.

The Plough (a hidden secret)
Shenstone has two pubs. As well as the highly visible Hare & Hounds on the busy A450, there is a second pub tucked away in the network of lanes around the village. This is The Plough. It's not a food pub but it is one of the rare Bathams pubs outside the Black Country. Bathams are a long established but small independent brewery in the Black Country, and their beers are highly thought of. The pub has a beer garden and darts and crib teams, as well as a TV to watch sports on. http://www.bathams.co.uk/pubs_plough.php

The Plough pub sign
A sight that will delight lovers of good beer is that of a Bathams pub sign. This is on The Plough at Shenstone. Most of Batham's pubs are in the Black Country, where the brewery is based, but this is one of the two they have in Worcestershire. Image

The Plough
One of the two Bathams pubs in Worcestershire, The Plough at Shenstone is hidden away in a narrow country lane. Bathams are a family firm and a rare survivor amongst small breweries, most of which are fairly recent creations. Bathams have been brewing since the 1880's. http://www.bathams.co.uk/pubs_plough.php

Postbox (George V wall box type)
This postbox is built into a wall in the village of Shenstone and has been serving the community for well over seventy years. It has the initials GR which indicates it was installed in the reign of King George V (which was from 1910 to 1936). The collection plate indicates the last collection (probably the only collection) is 11am Monday to Friday, and 9am on Saturdays.
