A remnant of Pike Mills, Green Street, Kidderminster
This three-storey building with a triangular gable end is the remaining part of the complex of Pike Mills that was variously occupied by Watson and Naylor, Watson Brothers, T & A Naylor, Boucher Engineering, Kidderminster Borough Council and Brintons Ltd (Green Street Factory). This particular building appears to have been used by the Watson Spinning Company and then by Brintons Ltd. In 1953 Brintons relocated spinning to Slingfield Mills and then used the Green Street Factory as a warehouse for finished carpets until 1968. The vast majority of Pike Mills was demolished in 1968 and much of the space is now a car park. This building is now a retail outlet with the upper floors having features suggesting they are now accommodation.

Aldi Supermarket, Green Street
The two things Kidderminster isn't short of are pubs and supermarkets. Increasingly the design of supermarkets seems often to superficially resemble that of modern churches and this Aldi supermarket is no exception. With the price of food going through the roof, many more people are using the cheap discounters like Aldi, Lidl and Netto. You might not think that this was so seeing the near empty car park, but the photo was taken on a Sunday morning before opening time!

Only One Hair Design, 36 New Road, Kidderminster
They used to be barbers or further back surgeon-barbers, then they were often called hairdressers, but now the fashion is to call themselves hair design or hair studio. This unisex salon has chosen hair design.

The Royal Exchange (1), 31 New Road, Kidderminster
The Royal Exchange seems to have been a pub for at least 150 years. Originally at number 33 New Road, it seems to have absorbed at least two adjoining houses over the years, although for postal purposes it is usually known as 31 New Road. It can be found in the 1861 Census, and then under its present name in the 1881 one. At one time it was a Marston's house, but although the name remains at the front, it is not listed in Marston's websites. During the last three years there have been at least two changes of management. Recently it was repainted at the front in cream, which gives it a fresh appearance, and makes a change from the drab greys and greens it has carried in recent years. Image

River Stour branch, looking towards New Road
This isn't the main channel of the river, but a subsidiary one. The river and its subsidiary channels form a complex pattern in the town centre, and at least one location actually flows under a building. Image
