Cottages, Chetnole
Pretty cottages beside the main village street with one displaying a punky lantern. October 31st is Hallowe'en and this coincides with the ancient Celtic festival of Samain, when ghosts, witches and fairies walk abroad. Punky lanterns are hollowed-out mangle-wurzels or pumpkins with a lighted candle inside illuminating a carved face.

Weather vane, Chetnole
For centuries weathervanes have kept people in touch with the elements, signalling those shifts in the wind, which bring changes in the weather. This simple device has grown into an English tradition which can say something about their owners, adding interest to the landscape.

Dorset CC road sign in Chetnole
As is often the case in Dorset (and some other counties), the sign carries the NG reference but I make it to be (ST) 602076. It looks as though there has been some inappropriate rounding of the values.
