The church is sealed off by a wall and a firmly locked iron gate which is a pity as the interior is supposed to be outstanding.

Holnest: parish church of St. Mary
Holnest parish consists mainly of a scattering of dwellings down the A352 between Sherborne and Cerne Abbas. This church therefore has something of an isolated feel, and is set back from the road somewhat. There was a large, imposing, ornate mausoleum in the churchyard but it was demolished in the 1930s.
