Sherborne Steam and Water Wheel Centre - steam engine
E S Hindley of Bourton horizontal single cylinder steam engine from The Gillingham Pottery, Brick & Tile Co. This engine is similar to the one installed in the water works building opposite and long since scrapped. It is now displayed in a purpose built building and steamed from a vertical boiler (not running on this visit due to boiler problems). It has a hand adjusted Rider type expansion slide valve, four bar crosshead guides and a Pickering governor. Considering that it was stored in the open for many years, it has cleaned up quite well.

Behind is the vertical boiler that was playing up. I believe this came from Holland and there is a small steam feed pump alongside it.

Sherborne Steam & Waterwheel Museum
The vertical boiler from Holland used to supply steam to the site's horizontal single cylinder engine by E S Hindley of Bourton, Dorset. Alongside is a small horizontal duplex non-rotative steam pump to feed the boiler. Unfortunastely the boiler was not working on this occasion due to a technical issue. That was a shame as it's a fair drive from Worcester to discover nothing's happening - still Westonzoyland later in the day was worth a look.

Sherborne Steam & Waterwheel Museum - new engine house
The Museum changed its name to include steam when this building and its contents was erected. The building houses a horizontal single cylinder engine by E S Hindley of Bourton and a vertical boiler to operate it. The engine is similar to that used in the adjoining waterworks engine house and was acquired on that basis to complement the site's original waterwheel that drove pumps to supply potable water.
