Sign for the New Inn
There are two main reasons for a pub to have this name. First, because it is a new pub, newer than others nearby. The other dates to the time of Queen Elizabeth I. The Monarch travelled the land to demonstrate that peace and prosperity had arrived and was bothered by the scarcity and condition of the inns. She directed new inns should be built for the benefit of travellers.
