West Milton: the churchyard
The 15th-century tower is all that remains of West Milton's former church, St. Mary Magdalene. A notice on the door (around the other side) explains that the owners of the neighbouring cottage have looked after the tower for 45 years and, 30 years ago, they accepted an offer from the diocese to purchase the tower and churchyard. The churchyard is therefore essentially part of the family's garden but public access remains as there is a public footpath running through it.

St Michael's Tower, West Milton
This is all that remains of the church that once stood here. It is thought that the dedication was to St Michael, but that is not known for sure. It is no longer used as a place of worship, but is a very tranquil and beautiful spot. There is an Ordnance Survey benchmark on the tower. See Image

Former church, West Milton
This was the first church in West Milton, dedicated to St Mary Magdalene, and dating from c.1500. When it was largely demolished, with only this tower remaining, a new church was built in the main lane through the village. This too was subsequently demolished, leaving West Milton as a village with two churchyards but no church. The tower is Grade II* listed.
