The Old George Inn
King Charles II, reputedly, came here on September 23rd 1651. The king was seeking a boat to France following defeat at the Battle of Worcester. He failed to find a passage and had to retreat back inland. He eventually managed to find a boat some weeks later at Shoreham. The king's flight is celebrated by the 615 mile long Monarch's Way footpath.
