The churchyard at St Peter's, Grove, Portland
This is high up on the plateau of Portland, with the open sea barely a mile away to the west, and the trees have learnt to lean with the prevailing wind. (The sea is even nearer going east, but that's not where the worst of the winds come from).

St Peter's Church, The Grove, Portland
This church was built by prisoners, housed at the nearby Grove Prison, who also worked on the Portland Harbour breakwater. It was completed 1872. Now redundant, and not open to the public, it is privately owned.

Former Church of St Peter, Grove
Former Anglican parish church, consecrated August 1872. As with many of the contemporary buildings on Portland, much of the work is reputed to have been done by convicts from the prison. It is a Grade II* listed building (List Entry Number: 1205607 http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=1205607&resourceID=5 Heritage Gateway).
