Ancient crucifix
During work in 1868, this ancient crucifix was discovered and re-set in the chancel wall of St.Mary's church. It is unusual in showing Christ with feet separated indicating a date before c1200, some authorities think it may even be 8th century.

Marton: St Margaret
"Essentially an C11 church, and rarely will one see so consistent a use of herringbone coursing as in the tower ... The chancel masonry is C11 too, though exclusive of the E bay. Late Perp windows. Perp windows in the aisles, the best in the S wall. Battlements everywhere" (Nikolaus Pevsner and John Harris).

Church of St Margaret, Marton
View of the interior from the south side. 13th century south arcade pillar in the foreground, 12th century Norman north arcade beyond. The church was not open at the time of my visit so I had to make do with views through the windows.
