Down Hall
Pevsner says of this building "Prominent at the N end of the village is DOWN HALL, built as a combined house and basket factory in 1877, a towering block in red, yellow and patterned brick. It had a turret for a view of the Humber. The basket-making took place in the top floor and attic, with the house below." I was told that the roof railings mark where the proprietor kept watch on the workers cutting Osiers to ensure there was no slacking!
