The footbridge at Althorpe station
The first Althorpe station was opened by the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway on 1st October 1866. It was on the original line over the River Trent. The line was moved to a new alignment to cross the river by the present King George V bridge and the present station was opened on 21st May 1916. The station is on the line between Sheffield and Scunthorpe. There are very limited facilities and there is only a layby on the other side of the busy A18. The service is hourly with no trains calling on Sundays. This view looks towards the bridge across the River Trent. For the view from the footbridge see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6260570 The next station in this direction is Scunthorpe.
