Brickyard Farm, Howden
This small 'windmill' was almost certainly a wind pump used to drain the former clay pits which are now fishing lakes. The clay would have been used for brick making for the local building industry, which is where Brickyard Farm gets its name. The pump is only about fifty metres east of Wood Lane and not where there is a windmill shown on the O/S maps.

Howden Brickyard Windpump
A mill used to dewater a clay pit. The flooded pit is seen beyond the mill. I am sure this was once restored but it is now in a poor condition but still worth a look. The B road from Howden to York did not appear signposted but perhaps I just missed it. Despite knowing where the mill was it took some finding due to the apparent lack of local signage.

Brickyard pond wind pump
6 years after Paul Glazzard's 2007 photo Image, with the permission of the landowner, I went looking for the little (about 7m) windmill and was delighted to find it still standing, its shaft and inner workings seemingly intact.
