These would have been among the earliest buildings to be built, around 1920, in the then new mining village of Bircotes.

Bircotes is a mining village founded in the 1920s when Harworth Main Colliery opened. The origin of the name is unclear.

Coalminers Memorial in Harworth
The memorial lists the names of the eighty one miners who were killed whilst working at the local pit between 1925 and 2004. The youngest was A.B.Coxon aged 14 and the oldest was W.Annable aged 66. Behind the memorial you can see the now redundant pithead tower at Harworth Colliery - itself an accidental monument to our lost coal industry.
