Fox & Hounds (2) - signs, Stockwith Road, Walkeringham, Notts
These signs, at the southern end of the building, have been there for a good many years judging by the amount of weathering they are showing. Other photos, see:- Image

Fox & Hounds (5) - sign, Stockwith Road, Walkeringham, Notts
A very common pub name, the sign of which would have been very easy to identify in the days when few people could read and write. Some pubs of this name may have been associated with a local fox hunt. Other photos, see:- Image

Fox & Hounds (4) - lamp, Stockwith Road, Walkeringham, Notts
This lamp is on the right hand side, looking from Stockwith Road, of the entrance door from that road. A similar one is on the left hand side. This may have been a pub owned by William Stones of Sheffield. They were taken over by Bass in 1968 and the Stones brewery known as the Cannon Brewery closed in 1999. The famous Stones Bitter is still brewed but at other breweries, and is no longer owned by Bass. It should be said that the picture of a cannon and the word Stones appear to have been painted on paper and rather crudely cut out and pasted on the lamps. So they probably predate any ownership of the pub by Stones. Other photos, see:- Image

Fox & Hounds (3) - detail, Stockwith Road, Walkeringham, Notts
In older public houses it was quite common to have a smoke room, but these days all that sometimes remains is a window marked Smoke Room. With the closure of many pubs these are disappearing fast, so it is nice to find this elaborately decorated example still in place. Other photos, see:- Image

Fox & Hounds (1), Stockwith Road, Walkeringham, Notts
One of three public houses which survived in the village until 2006, but now it is one of the two which remain open. It is a free house. Image Image Image Image

Bus stop and shelter, Stockwith Road (A161), Walkeringham, Notts
The shelter is brick built and opposite the Fox & Hounds pub. There is a noticeable absence of a seat in the shelter.

Renovation in progress, old woodwork was flying out of the windows as we passed, so no lunch stop here!
