North Carr Crossing
The line between Doncaster and Gainsborough was opened in 1867. Since then all the intervening stations have been closed but the line itself is still open and busy. Until recently North Carr Crossing was closed between 10 pm and 6 am. As can be seen, automatic barriers have now been installed. This is the view in the direction of West Stockwith with the crossing keeper's house on the left.

North Carr level crossing
One of the dwindling number of crossings with traditional gates. These ones are operated by hand, but the crossing keeper does not have the luxury of the cottage, which is now a private railway. He works from the prefabricated hut to the right of the crossing.

Crossing Closed

Stop at the Gates
North Carr level crossing still operated with a crossing keeper on the Gainsborough to Doncaster railway line. Looking south east.

North Carr Nature Reserve
Small wetland carr area adjacent to the railway line at North Carr level crossing. It may well be the result of excavation for spoil for the embankment on which the railway runs.
