Sign for the White Bear
The White Bear was a 40 gun ship of the Royal Navy and she was launched in 1564. In 1588 she saw action against the Spanish Armada when she was commanded by Lord Howard of Effingham.

The White Bear Inn, 36 South End, Bedale
The inn sign shows the Tudor ship of the same name ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_ship_White_Bear_(1563) ) rather than a more typical heraldic white bear. The road junction is very congested and needs traffic lights.
