Old milepost
Surveyed by the Milestone Society. This post on the village green in Ainderby Steeple on the A684 is one of only two of this design now known about. Four milepost designs were cast at the Mattisons of Bedale foundry that was in Leeming Bar. The premises are now occupied by H Gill & Sons. It operated between 1851 and 1937 and cast many different agricultural, domestic and general iron products. Milepost, Ainderby Steeple
A late 19th century cast iron milepost on the village green. Milestones/posts are the original roadside heritage features with many dating back hundreds of years and these historic items are under threat from highway developments.

Old Milepost by the A684, Main Street, Ainderby Steeple
Cast iron post by the A684, in parish of AINDERBY STEEPLE (HAMBLETON District), Main Street, on village green, near bus stop, on North East side of road. Bedale rose iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 19th/20th century. Inscription reads:- : NoALLERTON / 3 / {arrow} : : NORTH RIDING OF / {rose} / YORKSHIRE : : BEDALE / 5 / {arrow} / HAWES / 33 : Grade II Listed.
