Across the tracks to Stobthorn Farm
The grassy track which reaches the railway line here appears to have been the original farm track to Stobthorn, but there is now a safer alternative just beyond the level crossing.

Long Lane CCTV Level Crossing
This is on the railway from Northallerton to Eaglescliffe - known on the railways as the Leeds Northern because when it was originally built it started in Leeds and came through Ripon then Northallerton. This crossing took many years to modernise due to the very close proximity of the road junction. When the Signal Box at Low Gates - See Bob Embleton's photo Image - was converted from mechanical in the 1970's there was provision for this crossing to be made into Automatic Half Barriers but the HMRI & MOT as they were then would not allow it to be converted. It was eventually converted in the late 1990's and is now totally controlled by Low Gates via the green building in the middle of the photo.
