The Old Fire Station and Lascelles Lane
This was the fire station in the 1960s. I remember a civil defence poster in the window showing a hydrogen bomb exploding around 1960 - very frightening. In those days fire engines had bells. This building stands at the junction of Lascelles Lane, Crosby Road and East Road.

18th century back yards, Northallerton
The back yards ran from the back of the shops on the High Street to East Road. Nearly all of this has gone - much cleared away in the 1960s including thousands of beautiful thin hand made bricks. One of the doorways on this picture bears the date 1751. Image]

New cinema under construction
This view contrasts with one I photographed in 2017 which showed a pile of rubble and was taken from the other direction. A new cinema complex is under construction at the northern end of the Treadmills site, adding a much needed amenity to the town.

Zetland Street
Zetland Road links the High Street with East Road which runs along and serviced the back of the narrow burgage plots that form the town properties. At the end of the street there is the large wall of the prison.
