Wall bounding car park in Shildon
The car park is part of the overspill car parking for 'Locomotion', the Shildon outpost of the National Railway Museum. It's possible that the wall is composed at least in part from irregular blocks of slag from iron smelting.

Wait for signal before proceeding
An unusual feature for a roundabout at a road junction. The signal and wagon wheels reflect the history of Shildon as a railway town.

Shildon 1st railway station (site), County Durham
Opened in 1826 by the Stockton & Darlington Railway as the passenger terminus from Stockton via Darlington, this early station closed in 1842 when the current Shildon station opened on the through line to Bishop Auckland.
View east towards Newton Aycliffe and Darlington, from where the tracks crossed the road. The station, probably with minimal facilities, was situated somewhere near the trees, centre right. The former "Masons Arms" public house to the left was also known to be an early booking office. Behind the camera position were the one time Shildon wagon works.

Masons Arms Crossing
Former public house from which the first public service on the Stockton & Darlington Railway departed. The crossing in front of the public house lead to Witton Park Colliery via Brusselton Incline to the left, and on to Stockton to the right as looking at the image. In later years the large railway wagon works at Shildon was sited lust beyond the crossing to the left of the image. The former public house is currently a restaurant.
