Gatherley Moor Quarry Plantation
It does seem that Gatherley Moor Quarry are far more into the supply of block stone than into forestry management, as the plantation is in severe need of attention if it even to continue to function as a screen. It seems to have been partially harvested, and is now being colonised by a secondary forest of deciduous native trees and weeds, but also by the alien Himalayan Balsam, a most pernicious invader.

Winter wheat, Kirk Bank
At first glance it looks like almost sterile bare soil, but on closer inspection, winter wheat is just starting to come up. Once established, it will just tick over through the winter before racing away in spring to ripen by July.
