Bottom of Barley Mill Road
This road runs from Pemberton Road, along the west side of Bridgehill and here joins Shotley Grove Road. It becomes more of a country lane as it descends the hillside.

Looking down the lane
Looking along Barley Mill Road, which runs down to Shotlet Grove from Bridgehill in Consett. Looks very rural here, although it is in fact on the edge of a large housing estate.

Cottages at Shotley Grove
For all of the C19 there was a large paper mill here on the banks of the River Derwent, drawing power from water wheels. These former workers' cottages are among the few remaining buildings, most having been demolished.
