Copwell House Farm
A very photogenic former farmstead at Stoney Heap, west of Lanchester. Can never resist a picture when I walk past. Dates from the early 19th century probably.

Copwell House Farm, Stoney Heap
There were once two farms in this little hamlet north of the village of Iveston. Only this one remains. It appears to be a typical linear range of the early C19. Still in fairly original condition.

Rookery at Stoney Heap
View of part of the rookery here. I counted 23 nests all told, which is only about half what it was a few years ago. Rooks have suffered a big drop in numbers in this area.

Rookery at Stoney Heap
The rookery here is in the trees around the crossroads at Stoney Heap. This one is surviving but many local rookeries have become extinct in recent years, with the birds suffering a severe fall in numbers. Several large rookeries I can remember from my childhood in the 1950's are no more.

Rookery at Stoney Heap
The Rooks nests can be seen in the treetops here, beside the farm at Stoney Heap. When I visited in late March there was a lot of noise and activity. I counted 40 nests scattered about the trees.
