Roadside hedge on Knitsley Lane
Just beyond the southern suburbs of Consett. The tree trunk sections closing the gap in the trees will deter fly tippers hopefully.

Lanchester Valley Railway Path crossing Knitsley Lane
The Lanchester Valley Path (part of National Cycle Network route 14) follows the line of the old railway from Durham to Lydgetts Junction. One of the hazards of such paths is that the bridges, being a maintenance problem , have often been demolished, leaving steep gradients down and up to cross the road at grade.

Old track off Knitsley Lane
I think this was probably the original route of the lane, until it was altered to the west, probably to make it possible for the railway to go over on a bridge. This would have been in the 1830's when the original Stanhope and Tyne Railway was constructed.
