The Wishing Stone, Blackhill and Consett Park
This large attractive public park was gifted to the community by the Consett Iron Company in 1891 as a contribution to the well being of its workers. The story goes that many people over the years after chapel or church on a Sunday would stop here and place money or sweets before dancing round the stone three times whilst making a wish. The rhyme around its base was written in 2003 by Thomas Rowland, age 11, of Consett Junior School and reads "We're dancing round the wishing stone I'll come and wish with you We're dancing round the wishing stone I hope my wish comes true".
