Mill Lane, Ebchester
This lane off the B6309 on the west side of the village once serviced three different water mills. A mill race ran alongside, cutting across the neck of a loop in the River Derwent.

Lane Head, Ebchester
The lane in question is Mill Lane, which runs behind these cottages. They are located beside the B6309 just before it crosses the Derwent to the west of the village, and date probably to the early C19.

Looking across the old bridge at Ebchester
This stone built humpbacked bridge dates to 1862. A new concrete road bridge was built a little way downstream in 1973 to carry the main B6309 across the River Derwent. The old bridge remains for pedestrians.

Date stone on Ebchester Bridge
This bridge was built in 1862, as the inscription shows. Too narrow for modern traffic, it was replaced by a concrete bridge downstream in 1973, and is now used as a footpath.

This dates from 1862, and carried the old road over the River Derwent into Northumberland. It was replaced by a new bridge in 1973, and now carries only a footpath.
