The bridge at Shotley
The bridge over the River Derwent gives its name to the village of Shotley Bridge. It dates to the 18th century, but the actual year is unknown. It was widened in 1820. It carries the B6278 road across into SW Northumberland.

Rocks in the river at Shotley Bridge
This is just upstream from the road bridge. A scene in autumn. There were supposed to be millstones chiseled out from these rocks in times past, but I don't know whether that's true or not.

Former mill office, Shotley Bridge
This was originally the office for the Derwent Flour Mill which stood on this site. It closed in 1933 and was recently demolished. The office is the only survivor. A new building is being erected on the site. The office has been converted to a private house.

Messanger Bank, Shotley Bridge
This short street was named after the Rev John Messenger who lived here in the early C19. The large 3 storey house here, called Messenger House, is from the same time.

The bridge at Shotley
The bridge over the River Derwent which gives the village of Shotley Bridge its name. It is probably 18th century in origin, but the date is unknown. It was widened and repaired in about 1831. Viewed from the east side.

The Crown and Crossed Swords
This hotel in Shotley Bridge village has 18h century origins. However the present appearance dates from an enlargement and alteration of the original Sword Inn in the late 19th, early 20th centuries. The name was changed in 1922.
