Old field gateway
On the track to Rowley Gillots farm, west of Esh Winning village. Some nice old stone gate pillars.

Path through field
This path leads to the B6302 just north of Esh Winning village. There is a fine view of the north side of the valley beyond the Hedleyhope Burn, with Heugh Farm on the extreme right. The Roman road of Dere Street ran along the ridge, which makes a lot of sense when you view from here.

Site of medieval manor house at Castle Steads
On the west side of the present village of Esh Winning. The manor house stood her from the C12 to the mid C17. It covers quite a large area, but little remains apart from the moat. A section of this is shown at the bottom of the picture, choked with rushes.
