Ushaw - Lawn and sports area
The large area of lawn to the east of the extensive Ushaw former seminary and college. This area was used for sports and recreational activities when the huge college trained priests for the Catholic church. The wall at the back with its niches was used for a particular game.

Rear of buildings at Ushaw College
The road through woodland gives access to the rear of the large building complex at Ushaw College. The college was a Catholic seminary until the year 2011 when it closed due to an insufficient supply of students. Currently (December 2015) it's the temporary home of the Business School of Durham University whilst its own buildings are being rebuilt.

Ushaw College is the main centre in the north of England for the training of Roman Catholic priests. The original land was purchased in 1799 by Bishop Gibson and construction on the seminary began in 1804. Ushaw College is the home to a number of important historical possessions including a ring from St Cuthbert’s tomb, which may be worn by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle on special occasions.
