Mining sculpture at Elba Park
Elba Park is the new name for the reclaimed site of the former Lampton Coke Works and Colliery near Shiney Row. The sculpture represents a miner hand hewing coal from a typical low Co Durham coalfield seam.

With a further signal box down the line, and another loco approaching across the level crossing on the A183. Nice finial on the little building.

Steam locomotives, Bournmoor Junction, 1968
This view of a pair of locomotives working at Lambton Colliery looks across the old LNER line, running behind the brick hut on the right, towards houses at Bournmoor on Carnation Avenue. There are now nearer houses on this side of the estate at Lambourne Close. A couple of horses are in the meadow nearby.

Steam locomotive, Bournmoor Junction, 1968
Numbered NCB 42, this was "built by Robert Stephenson, works number 3801, in 1920 and sadly scrapped in May 1970" http://www.flickr.com/photos/david_christie/6760491975/in/set-72157628852916163/ Here it is working at the Lambton Colliery. The houses in the background are on Briar Lea, Shiney Row. The tiny scrap of light grey building on the horizon on the right, above the right-most gable and to the right of the tree, is the Penshaw Monument http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=39705471 .

Steam locomotive, Bournmoor Junction, 1968
Another view of Image], with, in this direction, the sweeping curve of the railway line heading off eastwards towards Philadelphia on an embankment past spoil heaps and, I think, waiting coal wagons. The housing on the extreme left is on Briar Lea.

Looking in the other direction from Image], with a pair of locomotives (51 and 63) at work and a water column; elevated tanks on the right. Off to the left down the tracks is the conveyor system at the coke works at Lambton.
