Location of old Lumley Bridge
A new bridge just to the right of the image now carries the B1284 across the River Wear, the old Lumley Bridge having been demolished, apparently, in 1997. The old bridge abutments remain, the view here being from the western of them across the river to the eastern. Lumley Castle, now a hotel, can be seen through the bare branches of trees.

First Hole on Chester-le-Street Golf Course
A challenging but short hole of 277 yards on a Par 4. A slight hook to the left and the ball will disappear into the murky depths of the River Wear - the fairway running parallel to the water.
